West Bengal marshes
One of the most mysterious places in India is the Marshlands of West Bengal. This area is known for its ghostly lights and strange occurrences. Despite its spooky atmosphere, it is also a popular tourist destination. However, one must be careful while navigating through these eerie swamps.
The first thing you should know about the Marshlands of West Bengal is that they can be scary at night. For this reason, it is recommended that you avoid the area at night. Also, do not forget to bring a stomach!
There are many things to do in India and there are a number of interesting places to visit. Some of them are well-known and can be easily visited, while others are a bit less straightforward.
One of the most intriguing attractions in the state of West Bengal is the Aleya Ghost Lights. These lights have a long and interesting history. Although their origin remains a mystery, locals have speculated that these lightshows are a result of spirits of deceased fishermen. They can also lead to some unfortunate accidents. It is a fact that many fisherman have lost their lives because of these lights.
Another notable landmark is the Qamar Ali Darvesh shrine. It is located in the village of Shivapur, approximately 180 km east of Mumbai. If you are willing to put in the effort, you can lift this stone, which weighs a reported 90 kg.
Assam’s Kamakhya
Kamakhya Temple, located in Guwahati, Assam, is one of the most ancient and mystical places in India. It is a renowned Shakti shrine. In fact, it is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
The shrine is a popular pilgrimage site. A number of people make it a point to visit here during their vacations in the state of Assam.
The Kamakhya temple was originally built in the 8th or 9th century. Since then it has been rebuilt several times. However, the oldest surviving structure remains. This temple is regarded as the womb of tantra in South Asia.
The Goddess Kamakhya is worshiped by a mixture of cultures. Tantric Hindus consider it an auspicious place to perform their rituals. These rituals are quite different from the normal pujas of other temples. They involve the use of Tantra and the Panchamakara system. Here, the elements of five are used to complete the puja.
During the annual Ambubachi Mela, the Goddess is celebrated during her menstrual period. The festival is usually held during the monsoon season.
Assam’s Kamakhya is one of the most sacred places for Tantrik Hindus. A special puja involves the use of the tantra marg. At the time of puja, the tantra priest explains the importance of the various elements.
Unlike the other places of worship, this site does not contain an image of the Goddess. Instead, it carries a myth to protect the devotees from the evil eyes of others.
Kuldhara village
Kuldhara village is located in the state of Rajasthan. This forlorn and abandoned town is considered as one of the most mysterious places in India.
This ancient town was established by the Paliwal Brahmins around the 13th century. Despite being a successful settlement, the community started to vanish a few decades later.
The village is believed to be haunted by ghosts. Locals believe that the ruins of the village can still be visited.
The village had an old temple that is still standing. However, the temple itself was renovated several years ago. Also, there are deep step-wells within the village that can be toured by tourists. There are also reconstructed houses that attempt to recreate the layout of the past.
A few years back, the government of Rajasthan decided to actively develop the abandoned town as a tourist destination. Currently, the area is being managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. As per the plan, there will be a folk dance performance area, shops and night-stay cottages.
Amongst the most famous stories associated with the town are those of Salim Singh and the Paliwals. Both of these characters were influential ministers in Jaisalmer. Sadly, the Paliwals did not have the capability to fight Salim Singh, who wanted to force a marriage between his daughter and the chief of Kuldhara.
Another story is that of the evil Diwan. He wanted to take the chief’s daughter away by force. In order to prevent this, the residents of Kuldhara cursed him.
Shani Shingnapur
One of the most mysterious places in India to visit is Shani Shingnapur. Located in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, the village is a popular pilgrimage site. There are no doors or windows in the buildings of the village.
The residents of the village believe that Lord Shani protects the area. They also believe that if someone lies, they will suffer seven and a half years of bad luck.
Despite the low crime rate, some villagers want to change an age-old tradition. They are asking locals to install locks at their houses. Others think that the remoteness of the area is responsible for the low rate of thefts.
In September 2015, the police station in the village was opened. The villagers have been without any complaint from the police for nearly a decade.
Many people in the village believe that the god Shani punishes thieves. Some say that the village has never had any burglaries. However, sceptics point out that its remoteness is the main reason for the low crime rate.
In 2011, gold ornaments worth 70,000 rupees were stolen. Although some villagers are challenging this custom, many others believe that stealing is only punished by the god.
Since the establishment of the Shani Shingnapur temple, millions of devotees come to worship the deity. Every day, 40,000 people walk through the shrine.
People from all over the country visit this shrine to offer prayers. You can hire a cab or bus to go to the temple. During No moon days, a fair is organized in the village. If you are planning to visit the shrine, you should wear a proper outfit. Several local shops nearby will rent you the proper attire.
Kodinhi
When visiting India, you’re sure to come across many mysteries. These unexplained locations can add a lot of fun to your trip, especially if you’re looking to add a bit of a mystical edge to your travels.
One of the strangest things about India is the amount of abandoned towns and villages that exist. The stories surrounding them are so fascinating that they’re hard to explain.
Kodinhi is one of these places. It is a small village in the Malappuram district of Kerala. Although it is small, it is considered a very strange place. There are two sets of triplets in the village, and there are also four hundred pairs of twins.
Another interesting and interestingly strange place is Kuldhara. This village was once home to 1500 Paliwal Brahmins. They left in the dead of night and left behind a curse on the area.
Kuldhara is actually an abandoned town. There are old temples and ruins here, but the area is best explored on a motorbike. Many locals believe that there are ominous creatures that roam around the town at night.
Other noteworthy places to see in India include the Jatinga Bird Suicide in northeastern India and the Shettihalli Church in Karnataka. Both of these are well-known mysterious spots in India.
While these are all good places to visit, there are several other lesser-known mysteries to explore in the country. Some of these are not easily explained, and some of them are only experienced by a select few.
Rama Setu
Rama Setu is a causeway across the ocean, connecting the Pamban Island in Tamil Nadu, India to the Mannar Island in Sri Lanka. It has been described in several ancient texts, maps, religious scriptures and research books. But is it man-made?
According to myth, Rama Setu was built by Lord Rama to rescue his wife Sita from Ravana. He was so desperate to reach Lanka that he prayed to the ocean for a pathway.
As a result, Rama Setu was built with floating stones, each one bearing the name of Lord Rama. This makes it unsinkable. In fact, this structure was a part of the island of Sri Lanka until 1.2 million years ago.
In order to understand the true nature of this bridge, Indian archeologists have been exploring it. During their expedition, they have discovered layers of loose sand, boulder-like materials, and corals. They also discovered a consistent layer of calcareous sand stone.
While these discoveries are impressive, there are also many shortcomings. The film is written and directed by Abhishek Sharma and produced by Vikram Malhotra and Aruna Bhatia. Their rudimentary VFX and pedestrian action scenes lack a cinematic quality. Despite the many good points, Ram Setu falls short of its potential.
Besides, the movie’s protagonist, Aaryan, doesn’t grasp the basics. His lack of intelligence is exacerbated by the fact that he is accompanied by a Srilankan guide AP and a senior academic, Professor Gayatri.
